If you do not qualify for NSW nomination under the Skilled Nominated subclass 190 visa, you may qualify for NSW nomination for a Skilled Regional Sponsored subclass 489 visa instead.

Regional Certifying Bodies currently represented by Regional Development Authorities in New South Wales will consider applications for nomination under this visa.

For a list of occupation nominated by those regions in NSW please see below

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for NSW nomination, you must meet the minimum eligibility requirements.

Age

You must be less than 50 years of age at time of application to DIAC

English Language

Applicants must sit the International English Language Testing System (ILETS) and score at least a six (6) on each of the four bands (Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading).

Certain occupations require a higher standard of English in order to obtain a positive skill assessment. Please refer to the assessing authorities' English language requirements.

Occupation

In order to apply for NSW Nomination under the subclass 489 visa, your occupation must be listed on the NSW State Nominated Occupation List and is on the skilled occupation list of that particular region you are applying for.

REGIONS INVITING APPLICATIONS

The following NSW regions are currently inviting applications under the 489 visa:

Murray

For this Visa applicants must agree to live in the designated region. Other regions are not currently inviting applications.

How to Apply

To apply for nomination from one of these regions you must complete NSW Form R and send it with copies of required documents and the application fee to the regional office you are seeking nomination from.

You will be advised of the outcome of your application through a letter. If your application is successful, the application form will be stamped and signed by the authorised officer from the regional office.

Register on SkillSelect

You must advise the Regional Certifying Body of your DIAC SkillSelect EOI Reference Number within 90 days from the date of your nomination or your nomination will lapse. To register on SkillSelect and obtain an EOI Reference Number, please go to the DIAC website www.skillselect.gov.au

Registration on arrival

If you are an offshore applicant, once you have been granted your visa and have settled in NSW please register your contact details to the region that nominated you. They may contact you to survey you on your experience settling in NSW.
