For anyone that hasnt been, you really should consider going for a day trip around the Penrith and Richmod areas.

Theres lots of nice open country with plenty of old historical buildings to be seen. Theres the Nepean Regatta Centre, Nepean River, Penrith Panthers and many other places of interest.

Anyone keen on golf would love playing at the historical Rum Corp Barracks in Richmond or even Riverside oaks, one of the best courses in the country that isnt far away, 20 mins up the road from Windsor.

Anyone thats looking for a good day trip and needs ideas, just send me a pm and i will be happy to advise you.

Cheers

We usually head up to Windsor or sometimes Richmond about once a month. The Sunday markets at Windsor are well worth a visit - aside from all the other stalls, there's a manwho sells fruit and vegetables next to the water wheel. Much better quality than you get in a fruit shop - and he has some heirloom varieties too from time to time.

Other places in the Hawkesbury worth a visit are Kurrajong (I mean the village of Kurrajong, just off Bells Line of Road, not Kurrajong Heights), a lovely little place with coffe shops, restaurants and antique shops (although there are less antique shops than there were a few years ago) and Grose Vale is worth a visit too. It is mainly residential and rural, but there is a lovely park (with, I regret to add, less than lovely toilets) which is a great place for a picnic. And just before you get to the top of the hill, there's a nursery (at least I hope it's still there as I haven't been there for a while) called Honeysuckle Cottage that specialises in cottage garden plants.

If you're going to the Hawkesbury for a day trip from around Parramatta or Blacktown you can vary the journey a bit by doing one leg of it along Blacktown Road and the other along the Windsor Road.

You obviously know the area very well Fran. I know all the places that you mentioned and have been to them, especially the markets, but not for a while.

A little bit further up the mountain have you been to the botanical gardens at Mount Tomah? They are very nice to look around and have a BBQ :)
