New to Sydney, it's Saturday... Who's out?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone l'm Joe,

I've been in Sydney six weeks now but been busy finding somewhere to live and working damn hard for the first month. The guys (inc girls) at work are great and had a few nights out, but they're younger than me and have their own groups of friends.

I'm a single guy looking to meet mates, friends who can pick up the phone and say, 'do you fancy a beer', or 'it's Saturday night, are we going out for a for the night'. Beer is not my only thing but l like to socialise and have a good laugh with mates. I also enjoy the company of women, as l think l'm relatively sensitive enough not to be all macho macho. Basically, l just want to make friends and have a laugh.

Cheers anyone for reading.

Maybe find a pub you like in your suburb, and make an effort to get to know the staff, and go along to any social nights the pub has - quiz nights for instance. I go to the Strawberry Hills every Wednesday for their quiz. I've got two or three pubs I go to in Surry Hills, where I've done the same thing. It's good to walk in a place where the staff know your name. If you follow a football team, try and find out where their fans go to watch games. I got talking to a Crystal Palace fan last night in the Royal Exhibition hotel. Both West Ham and Palace fans go there to watch games. Spurs go to the Triple Aces (my team.) Which suburb do you live?

Thanks for that Mary, good tips.

Could you tell me the bar that is synonymous with Man United fans in Sydney?

Thanks

Joe

'Cheers' perhaps in George St. They seem to cater for fans from a number of clubs, but not Spurs as we have our own pub - Triple Aces. Maybe the sports bar in the casino at Darling Harbour - never been there myself. There is a Man Utd supporters club in Sydney, based in Sutherland - I found their website but there 's nothing about where they go to watch games.

Friday is Anzac Day, so why don't you go to a pub with 'Two-up' on, (the ANZACs' gambling game that is legal on that one day of the year.) I'm not a gambler, but it's fun to be a part of it, be part of the mixture of servicemen and women in uniform, veterans, and everybody else. They do it at the Strawberry Hills hotel in the afternoon on the corner of Elizabeth and Devonshire Sts, Surry Hills. I'd go down myself. especially as it's also my birthday, but I've got a stinker of a cold, and I might have to stay home. I was planning to go to the Trinity on Friday night, also on Devonshire St, but further up on the corner of Crown St. There is usually a good atmosphere in there.
