Credit card merchant fees to be charged to applicants

 

From 22 March 2014, the Department is implementing changes to enable the recovery of credit card merchant fees from clients via a surcharge on credit card payments for visa application charges (VACs) and other fees and charges.

 

Full details of the surcharge will be communicated on the DIBP website from 22 March 2014.

The fees are just going up and up, the fees went up astronomically during our migration process, so by the time we submitted we ended up paying more then double what we had originally intended. But it will be worth it when we arrive next month.

From 19 April 2014, DIBP will apply a credit card surcharge to visa application transactions made using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and Diners credit cards. The following rates will apply:

Visa and Mastercard - 1.08%

American Express and JCB - 1.99%

Diners Club International - 2.91%

 

If you are looking to make a visa application soon you might try to make it prior to this deadline to save a bit of money.
