Hi All,

Very new to this site, great site though!

Can anybody help us ?

We visited Sydney last year to see our family and friends who moved out to Oz last year and we have fallen in love with the place.

We have 2 young children , 2 and 4 years old, who cried when they found out the holiday was over! And didn't want to get on the plane home (we felt the same way without the tears)

So after long late night chats me and the wife have decided we would love to move to Oz.

Here are our main problems..... My wife is a hairdresser (level 3 NVQ, 17 years hairdressing) , but hasn't worked for 4 years while she have stayed at home to look after the children.

I worked in the chemical industry as a production manager at a chemical plant in the NW of England. My job includes planning, purchasing, transport, exports transport, daily running of the company and sales. We are a 5 million turn over company, which employees 11 staff.

I ideally I would like to get sponsored to move to OZ, do you think that is possible ?

We wouldn't want my wife to work straight away , because she would rather stay with the children while we settle into life in Oz and until they can go to school.

But if its the only option with her being a hairdresser i guess that's the only way we could do it ?

What do you guys think are best options?

Many thanks all ! Any advice would be great

Hello Nervous Nelly,

Welcome to the site, so you have been enchanted by the wonderful city that is Sydney. I am glad you had a brilliant time and I agree it is so easy to fall in love with the place.

Regarding your visa requirements, have you looked at the Visa Wizard to see if your occupation is on the wanted list (see below)

http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/

I think that your wife's profession of hairdressing was dropped of the required skills list some time ago, so it will hinge on your occupation. I am no expert in visas but I am sure somebody will be along to help you further, but, in the mean time take a look at the link above and see if you qualify.

Good luck Metoo

Hi and welcome to the forum, I can understand why you have fallen in love with the place. I am going to move your thread in to the migration section and hopefully our resident migration agent can take a look and see if she can help.

Hi Nervous Nelly - love your user name :)

Welcome to the forum,

Finding an employer to sponsor a visa is sometimes an option, although it can be difficult to find a sponsor when you do not have a visa - a bit of a Catch 22. As with all the skilled visas you or your wife would need to be nominated for an occupation on the SOL or CSOL and you are required to meet a range of selection criteria

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupation-list.htm

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/consolidated-sponsored-occupation-list.htm

You need an eligible sponsor and among other things they need to be able to justify why they cannot find an Australian to do the job.

You could also look at the skilled independent visas, again you would need to nominate an occupation on one of these lists, the selection criteria plus to meet a the points requirement of >60 points. Obtaining a skilled independent visa would provide you with work rights and you need not migrate immediately but could potentially seek an employer whilst still in the UK?

As a starting point there is a points calculator on the DIAC web site (there is also one on my website www.TaylorMadeImmigration.com/PointsCalculator)

It is not possible to advise without looking better at your full circumstances etc. if you would like to take a look at the points calculator and/or send me me copies of your CVs I would be happy to provide a bit of initial advice.

Tee
