PEARL Jam, Blur and Arcade Fire will form a triple-headline bill for the Big Day Out festival tour in 2014.

Also filling out the line-up is Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion), The Lumineers, Major Lazer, and Aussie superstars Tame Impala and Flume.

Grunge rock godfathers Mudhoney will also perform at the festival as part of the strongest line-up promoter Ken West has put out for a long time.

The triple-headline bill is the first in Big Day Out history. Pearl Jam will play the BDO in every location to promote their new album Lightning Bolt.

In another coup, Blur will play on the Love stage, their first Aussie gig since 1997, according to fasterlouder.com.au. Arcade Fire are returning to Big Day Out having performed at the festival in 2008.

Snoop Dogg will play a greatest hits set and some of his new reggae album as Snoop Lion, Reincarnated.

Promoter Ken West told fasterlouder Pearl Jam always wanted to play at the festival.

"Obviously they're very cautious about how they do things," he said.

"We were lucky enough that it felt right for them and it certainly felt right for us," he told the site.

He also said snaring Blur had taken him 14 years of negotiating:

"I didn't think it was going to happen because (frontman) Damon Albarn wanted to focus on his solo album next year and we were still negotiating with Arcade Fire," West explained to News Limited.

"Then both bands said yes and there was no way I was going to knock back Blur."

Other major acts announced on next year's bill include Steve Angello, Mac Miller, Grouplove, Toro Y Moi, DIIV, The Naked And Famous, PEZ, Dillon Francis, Ghost, Flosstradamus, Portugal, The Man, Northlane, Cosmic Psychosis, DZ Deathrays, and more.
