Going up to Palm Beach this weekend

I love it up there, and it's been too long I just find the wide open spaces of the beaches exhilarating, , the climb up to Barrenjoey headland is a great short walk for kids with fab views, the park between the beaches is lovely, there are good cafes and restaurants, boat hire to take a tinny out on Pittwater, ferries to Patonga across on the central coast. It's just lovely - you can see why it's the holiday home place for Sydney's wealthy I know for many it's a long drag to get up there, over an hour out of the city - but that's part of it for me, makes it much less busy. There's always space up there. And it's only about 35 mins from where we live, so easily doable:)

Just a day trip. Steeling myself for a dive in the sea, water temp is supposedly 17C

Our girls had a paddle at Bundeena yesterday and one of my friends husbands went surfing this morning, and all said the water isn't too bad!

 

Palm beach looks lovely. Might have to make the trip at some point, although we have some pretty nice beaches down here which are easier for us to get to.

It was WARM!! Well, water temp felt warmer than the air temp, that's for sure. Had a lovely walk up to the lighthouse (open on Sundays and we caught a tour, fantastic views) with my son and friends' boys....nice picnic, mucked about in the surf for an hour (serious waves up today) and then a play in the park. Everyone v.tired now I know what you mean about getting to the other side of the city, LKC - we are the same about the south, we never go there unless on the very rare occasion we're passing through to somewhere like Kiama or the Southern Highlands. Sydney is a bit like London in that respect I think - people who live on one side of the harbour almost never go to the other side, it's a psychological barrier more than a physical one. I rarely even bother with the eastern suburbs tbh. I still hanker after doing that proper long coastal walk in Royal National Park (all the way from Otford to Bundeena) but it'll have to wait until my boy's a bit older. Mind you, I want to do the Great North Walk all the way up to the Hunter as well, plus a whole bunch of others Didn't feel like winter today, that's for sure. Lovely stuff

We are off to the UK in September for three weeks, and have loads of things on before then (trade fairs for work and birthday parties etc), but if you fancied a walk/camp/barbie at any point down this way, we would be more than happy to entertain.

Thanks for the offer LKC - very kind of you. Will be a bit before we get down that way but will bear it in mind. We too are going back to the UK on Thursday for 3 weeks, travelling around to show people our new arrival (and to see them I guess).....will be in W Suffolk for about a week, staying with friends in Wixoe, Cowlinge and Clare (where we used to live). Looking forward to it

We used to live in Ashfield Green which is a tiny little hamlet just outside Wickhambrook, which is at about the central point between Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and Clare! We are staying in Cambridge for a few days, and will be driving over to Haverhill to see OH's old workmates, and up to Ely to see friends there, and we will be seeing my old workmates in Cambridge too. I enjoyed living there and had we stayed in the UK we would have probably stayed put.
