Sydney social group wanted!!

Recommended Posts

Guest clairebear82

Hello!

Just found this forum from PIO link so thought I should sign up and make my first post, being a fairly new Sydney Sider!

I have been in Sydney for 3 months now, and both me and the hubby are in need of some nice new friends! We have met some lovely people so far, through work, but we haven't really managed to find a new social group and we are in desparate need of conversation, other than with each other! (before we go too mad!!)

I'm 30 and he's 32 and we are living at Darling harbour and working in the city. We generally like to go out for drinks, coffee, meals, the odd barbie (when the summer comes!) and just general socialising!! (and shoe shopping for me, of course - Sydney has the best stores!)

We are not specifically looking for other 30 something couples!! - just anyone we can have a laugh and chat with - friends for me, friends for him, groups of friends, girly friends, blokey mates, couples, singles, any age - all welcome and the more the merrier!!

So if anyone would like to make some new friends please let me know! - or just come along to Helm bar at Darling Harbour this Saturday (6th July) from 7pm ish, and join us for a few drinks and of course the final Lions v Wallabies test!

Hope to see you soon!

If I was already in Sydney, I'd love to come along but we don't arrive until October.

Enjoy the match!

Hi Claire,

I have been in Sydney since the end of January living in Westmead in Western Sydney. I am a nurse so do shifts but let me know if you want to meet up at some point. I am here alone so it has been difficult to find new friends.

Hiya Claire,

I'm a new 32 yr-old member too and thought I'd have a look at the forums before I move next April, to get some good insider tips. I've been on holiday a few times to Oz but expecting the "reality" to be a bit different! I'm coming on my own so any get-togethers would be great!!

Keep in touch and in the meantime enjoy the shoes! :)

Hi Tracey,

Be good to meet up! The hubby is trying to arrange a meet up for 3rd August, will keep you posted with the details - but can catch up for a coffee before/after that if you like - just let us know when you're not working!

Did I see on PIO that your location is Gloucester?? - was wondering if you are actually from Glos, UK? - as that is where we are from!!

Hi Nikki,

Welcome to the forum!! there should be lots of useful info and tips here for you - but anything you want to know, just ask :-)

Hope all is going well with the planning - My Oz move plans started last July and moved here April, suprising how quick the time went!

So far, my 'reality' is that its great here!! - although I had never actually been here before I made the move!

We are hoping to plan some regular get togethers so will keep you updated ready for April!

Be great to keep in touch - I may have to go shoe shopping this weekend (it is payday this week!!) :-)

Hi Claire,

Oh that would be great, thank you so much! I'm sure I'll have a million and one questions - to be honest it's all been a bit of a whirlwind as I was lucky enough that my visa came through really quickly. I'm now trying to work out where to live, how to find a job etc etc.

It's terrifying but in a good way :) I've loved the country more and each time I've been so hopefully that's a good sign.

Have fun at your next get-together!

Nikki xx

Hi Nikki,

No probs, ask away!! Its a big move so ask all the questions you want (I bombarded people with literally hundreds of questions when I was moving!!).

Thats great news with the visa, I'm on a 457 at the mo, so my work sorted it for me (I took an internal transfer from our Bristol office over to Sydders!) - hoping to go for a PR visa as soon as we can though :-)

So many great places to live, endless choices! I know people living all over Sydney and they all love their areas!

we originally wanted to live out on the beach at Manly, but then decided to be a bit closer to work instead - We are on King street wharf, at darling harbour, its awesome, but all the bars and restaurants are starting to hurt my wallet and waistline a little!!

What sort of work are you looking for? Seek and MyCareer are quite good sites, Gumtree can be useful too, but there are loads of others!

Thats a good sign - sure you will love it even more once you're living here, its a great place to live - I'm not entirely sure that it has really sunk in yet that I actually live here! :-)

you will be here before you know it! :-)

Hey guys

So the plan as it currently stands (but open to suggestions!!) is to meet about 7 -7.30 ish in the Slip Inn on Sussex street Sat 3rd August!

Looks like there has been quite a bit of interest so far, so fingers crossed for a good turnout - we are hoping to make this into a regular thing all being well!

Dolly - we have recently purchased a couple of sombreros - perhaps that would work?!!!! (not the sort of thing we normally buy, but we have a Mexican Fiesta party this weekend - honest!!)

See you soon

Hi everyone!

I have just joined the site. I am a 30 year old single who is making the big move with a friend (we met on one of these sites last year when I started the visa process!) We are coming out at Christmas for a holiday and to validate my visa, and then moving for good next September. I am a secondary English Teacher and currently Head of English so hoping I can find a teaching role when I arrive (if not before). Would love to meet up with you all and Claire, I love shoes too! I will miss Zara so hoping Sydney stores will fill this gap!!

Hi Amy, welcome to the forum!!

Sure we will be having lots more social events, so make sure you keep in touch and maybe pop along when you are here at Xmas!

As for tonight's meetup, firstly, apologies, I have been a little slack in posting here lately! But tonight is still on!

Plan is to meet in the slip inn on Sussex street at 7pm. We will be outside in the garden and will have something with us to identify ourselves, not sure yet, but it will be something obvious!!

See you soon

Claire xx
