Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

DIAC have announced the new visa application charges as of 1st July 2013.

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/new-visa-charges-1july2013/proposed-visa-pricing-table.htm

Whilst the base applicant charge remains the same DIAC have introduced charges for additional applicants included in the visa application. For 189/190 & 186/187 applicants that means a base charge of $3060 plus additional charges of $1530 for additional applicants >18 and $765 for additional applicants <18 years of age.

Wow, I must show my ignorance of the visa system. I guess I am just at the beginning of my journey, I have applied to AMNAC for skills assessment and hope to apply to APHRA following. I was going to apply to skill select after obtaining registration and aim for either a sponsored post or permanent visa, I think these are 457 or ?189. I followed your link and I am completely confused. If I am the main visa applicant I have to pay the fees shown and second payments. Do these apply to partner and to my 2 kids. Would anyone give me an idiots guide to the visa process and costs. Thank you to anyone who tries. Paul

From looking at it, you would pay the base application charge plus the additional applicant charges for your partner and two children. I think the second payment which is mentioned under the tables, is only payable if your/your partners English is less than functional.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Thank you, I will have to try to look into the costs, as my partner was schooled and born in the UK, that may help. Paul

For the 186/187 and 189/190 you are looking at:

Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids under 18) = $6120 (=$3060 main applicant, $1530 for partner and $765 x 2 for each child assuming they were both under 18 years of age.

For the 457 this has increased to $900 for the main applicant, additional adult applicants $900, under 18's $225 each.

So if you were looking at the 457 $2,250 for the visa application.

The second payments of $8,520 and $4,250 (shown on the tables) are for where an adult applicant cannot show they have functional English. If your partners first language is English and has a UK, or other exempt, passport they will not require to prove this, there are other forms of prove to avoid this charge as well.

Thank you so much for looking into this for me, it is quite a minefield. I am hoping that I have 2 opportunities for sponsorship, but was thinking of applying for the visa independently and taking a post. Thanks again. Paul
