You mentioned before you were also from Gloucester I think?! - completely random question..... its a very small world and the mention of the twins gave me a clue - but are you by any chance married to Matt D?! - could just be a very strange coincidence?!! Hello All, Once again, apologies for being very slack again lately - xmas, new year and a visiting daddy has not left me much time to check in!! Welcome to all the new arrivals, hope you are all settling in well and enjoying sydney life! - Think its almost time for another meet up!! Great idea Jen - if only I had loggged on sooner!! - think the festival is on for a little longer yet, so if anyone has any ideas etc could be good for a meetup - Feel free to make some suggestions!! Hopefully see you all soon! Claire

    Sydney social group wanted!!

Hey Kelly, aw what time were you there? I didn't spot you? Was there from about 6 ish for a couple of hours just at the side of the steps to the front door! Didn't manage to get a table near the quiz bit as they were all taken pretty early, so maybe not the best position to find me! Shame we missed you, will definitely arrange another meetup soon, but can always arrange something before then if you are about Claire Xx

Awesome news! Must be the day for it, we have been here on a 457 for the last 9 months, but we also got our PR visa granted today!! Wahoo! See you in January!
  9. Morning all, Thought I would share my little bit of good news with you! After being here on a 457 for almost 9 months now, we got our golden ticket this morning! Those lovely people at immigration were up bright an early on a Saturday morning to email me to say we have just been granted permanent residency! Yay just 6 weeks 2 days after applying!! What a great start to the day and a super speedy result! Have a great weekend all, and to those waiting on grants too, fingers crossed, sure you will get your ticket soon too! Xx

    Sydney social group wanted!!

Hi All, Welcome to all the new guys on the thread, great to hear from you all! and hello again to everyone else!!! So... I'm thinking PJ O'Briens in the city - at the Grace Hotel on King Street - they also do a pub quiz, every Tuesday from 6.30, with a Pizza and a Pint for $18. Thought this would be a little more central for everyone than the Pyrmont (maybe next time!) Now, I know some people aren't here yet, so apologies again! (pyrmont next time!!), but for those who are here, and Kelly arriving very soon!, how is everyone fixed for Tuesday 3rd December?? say 6pm at PJ's? Claire xx

    New Years Eve

Definitely Train!! Parking in the city can be a nightmare and very expensive at the best of times, and then there's the traffic....!!! I'm not sure on the timetable for NYE, but the trains from the airport into the city usually run about every 10 mins and take maybe 10-15 max to the city - although I would guess some stations will be restricted, circular quay very likely!! But they usually put on special trains for big events in Sydney, so you shouldn't have a problem getting one! - check out 131500.com for all transport info

    New Years Eve

Gutted :-( Had the same thought, no hassle and not too bad price compared to some!! but we were very lucky managed to get our tickets on presale Yay! - sorry :-( But there are 2 other ticketed events in the botanics, think its 'Harbour lights' and 'lawn with a view', more picnic style but cheaper tickets, if they have some left? probably a little late for a lot of events now, but a tip for next year, sign up to the newsletters for the events you may want to go to, they email you as soon as tickets are released, and often do a special pre sale too! If you want something that has the food etc and not having to camp out all day,as Northshorepom said, the prices are eye-watering, but if you don't mind paying for less hassle, there are a few other events that may be worth checking out - all very central though (I'm a city girl and still don't know many of the good 'local' places) - so probably a littl touristy, but Check out Luna park - Harbourparty.com Taronga Zoo has a great view too The opera bar has a beach party - one of the best views of the bridge, but so so crowded! The sebel at pier one has an all inclusive package and......... If you really want to push the boat out, take a cruise on the harbour! - terrible pun, I know!! captain cook cruises have some great all inclusive packages, but will set you back a LOT!! But there are some great views from loads of places round the harbour, I was in Drummoyne on friday and had a cracking view! - But plan something soon - its only 9 weeks away!!!

    Sydney social group wanted!!

Hi Kelly and Sarah, Neil & Lucy, and anyone else I have missed!! Welcome to the forum! You are all going to love Sydney, I have been here 7 months now and its definitely the best decision I have made!! Fingers crossed on getting the visa soon Kelly, you will be here in no time!! So I have been promising to arrange another get together for months now, so I thought I should really try and make an effort now with so many people now on this thread!! I know some of you aren't here yet (and so may miss this one - sorry :-( but I promise there will be more!!) - but for the guys who are/will be around, I have discovered that the Pyrmont Bridge hotel has a weekly pub quiz on Wednesday nights, which could be great for a giggle (and the chance of winning $150 too!) - and for anyone up for a challenge or just very hungry, they also have a 'Man or Mouse' challenge, which on Wednesdays is a 'Monster American style pulled pork sandwich' - they do have normal size food too, with $10 meals! So let me know if you are keen on the idea of testing your knowledge or eating mountains of pulled pork and will see what we can arrange!! - Also let me know what dates you can do (obviously wednesdays only for this!!) But if anyone has any other ideas for a meetup, feel free to add your suggestions! Claire xx
