Another of Sydney's sandstone landmarks - Central Station, at the southern end of the CBD.

The foundation stone was laid on 30 April 1902, with Premier Sir John See laying a second foundation stone at the base of the clock tower on 26 September 1903. Sandstone for piers, ramps and walls came from Pyrmont quarries, 3,800,000 bricks were used to face more than 2.5 kilometres of platforms, hand carved cedar surrounded the main doorways and stained glass windows displayed the railway's insignia. A large arched roof covered the main concourse. The station was opened on 4 August 1906. A further extension for the city underground railway was added in the late 1920s/30s.
