Default How many business suits must a guy own at a minimum?

I came to Syd from USA and back there, several people would wear different colored jackets and trousers, but I dont see much of that in Sydney.

So I was wondering what is the optimum number of business suits guys who work in a fairly formal work environemnt own. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

PS: The birthday suit is a given so but no one wears that to work so what else have we got?

Cheers

My brother works at a securities firm and he has about 8 different suits and heaps of shirts and ties. All of his suits are different colours from black with dark blue stripes to tan with brown stripes, and some are just plain. Most of the colour he wears is in his shirts and ties. He also has half a dozen different dress shoes.

To answer your question IMO, I would say five, that is one for each day in the working week. A few more wouldn't hurt if you want to mix it up a little.

Hi Artilect,

Thanks, thats very helpful. Moving to Syd has been quite a bit of cultural shock to me, with men wearing pink shirts and ties and all that. I have never seen anyone wear a pink shirt in over 7 years in US (well the men that preferred same-sex partners did).
