Default Oxford St assault - Sat Night 21-02-09

Hi,

This is a bit of a long shot but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. I was assaulted on Saturday night on Oxford st, near Taylor Sq, walking home alone towards CBD. Now unfortunately between being a bit drunk and getting punched in the head, I don't remember everything about it.

I'll start by saying that I'm a very placid person, I'm never in trouble and I don't go looking for it (I'm a very happy person when drunk!). I would never give anyone an excuse to attack me, so I can only assume that this was totally random (I wasn't robbed), a case of mistaken identity, or I pi**ed someone off without knowing it. They (I'm almost sure there was more than 1) came at me from behind and I got several punches in the head, ending up with stitches in my chin and at the corner of my eye, a generally sore and lumpy head and a few bruises elsewhere (arms & legs).

People definately saw this happening as it was still relatively busy on Oxford st (approx 3am). If anyone on here thinks they saw it happening I'd love to hear from you. One of the worst things for me is not knowing exactly how or why this happened. The Police don't really want to know about it, I went to Surry Hills station on Sunday to report it and someone took my details down on a post-it and basically surmised that Oxford st is a dangerous place to be when you're drunk (thanks for that officer).

Some very nice people did help me out, an ambo was called for me (by a girl I think) and seemed to arrive in record time, I was bleeding profusely from my chin so I think some people were quite shocked and worried for me. Someone also got a heap of tissues from a cafe and gave them to me for the bleeding (thanks a lot to these people).

As I say, I think its a long shot but if this rings a bell for anyone I'd be very grateful for info. I just want to piece it together in my head. Ohh, I'm a tall red head by the way and I was wearing a black T-Shirt & Jeans (in case you thought you saw me but weren't sure).

You should be able to email me through the forum or just leave a comment (constructive only please).

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Any security cameras in the area?

At least you will be laying off the booze for a while.

I would've thought there would be plenty cameras around the area, and I mentioned that to the Police but they didn't seem too interested.

I felt like they were attributing some blame to me for the incident the way they talked to me. I was drunk yes, but am I not allowed to be? I wasn't stumbling around the place, I never get that drunk. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, I've never been in a fight in my life, that's the first time I've ever been struck in the face and I've never thrown a punch at anyone. That's what makes me so mad about it.

If I change my habits (now I might not go near Oxford st again for a while), then they win, so no, I'll be having a few beers this weekend to celebrate my birthday.

But anyway, that's getting a bit off topic. I just put this up in the hope that someone might have seen something.
